This Marshmallow Salad recipe from 1921 seems to be a variation of Ambrosia Salad with fruit and coconut. Marshmallows, crunchy walnuts and simple mayonnaise dressing pulls the flavor in a more mellow, savory direction.
Ingredients
- 1 can Diced Pineapple ((drained))
- 1 can Mandarin Oranges ((drained))
- 1 bag Mini-Marshmallows
- 1 cup Chopped Walnuts
- ½ cup Mayonnaise
Instructions
- Combine first four ingredients and chill until ready to serve.
- Stir in mayonnaise and serve.
Serving Suggestions
+ Substitute sour cream or plain yogurt for mayonnaise
+ Substitute slivered almonds for walnuts
+ Add 1/2 cup chopped dried cherries or cranberries for bright tartness
